The world produces over 460 million tonnes of plastic each year — a figure set to triple by 2050.

Most of it is polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), used in everything from construction wrap to containers and textiles. These plastics are rarely recycled and almost never upcycled, ending up incinerated or landfill.
